What do you get when you combine the makings of a jalapeño popper, Disney’s classic french fries, and a side of creamy ranch? A satisfying meal or snack that gives a spicy twist on a classic favorite!
Contempo Café is definitely one of my top picks for Disney Resort quick service restaurants. Whether you’re staying at Disney’s Contemporary Resort or just visiting, I encourage you to stop in and check it out. The MouseHouseNews.net team has a number of favorite menu items including the Contempo Burger, Patty Melt, and Three-Meat Flatbread for starters.
However, what if you’re looking for something a bit “lighter” than a 7oz burger or a full flatbread? I have the perfect solution for you! Allow me to introduce: Contempo’s Loaded Cheese Fries.
What Makes These Loaded Cheese Fries So Special
The Loaded Cheese Fries at Contempo Café is an order of fries topped with bacon, cheese sauce, scallions, and jalapeños served with a side of House-made ranch. Sounds delicious, right? Let’s get more into the details, so you can decide if this is a “must get” on your next visit!
Portion Size and Pricing
The portion size is generous for the price ($6.99 at time of posting). It would work great as a snack to tide you over between meals. Alternatively, you could do as I did, and order this as your meal. The benefit to this approach is it leaves room for an equally delicious dessert!
The Fries & Toppings
The base of the dish starts with your standard Disney french fries. They’re absolutely delicious on their own, but taken to the next level when covered in toppings. In fact, the toppings are where this dish shines. There was plenty of hot, melty cheese sauce on top of the fries. Obviously, adding this much cheese on top means not all of the fries will stay crispy. Such is the classic dilemma of anything covered in cheese sauce (for example, nachos). This is why I definitely recommend grabbing a fork!
Let’s move on to the rest of the toppings now. Stated fact: everything is better with bacon. I’m happy to report that there was a decent amount of crispy bacon crumbled on top of the cheese. The scallions added some greenery as well as a slight onion flavor, which was good as it helped break up the flavor of the cheese a bit. Finally, the jalapeño slices brought the heat! If you’re not a fan of spicy, don’t worry. You can easily control the spice level by not eating the jalapeño slices, since they are the only spicy element in Contempo’s Loaded Fries.
Another way to control (or complement) the heat from the jalapeños is to drizzle the included ranch on top of everything. If, for some reason, you’re not a ranch dressing person, you can still enjoy these Loaded Fries. The ranch comes in a little cup on the side, so you can control how much or how little you’re adding to your fries.
The Verdict
As someone who grew up on chili cheese fries (yum!), I’m a big fan of loading toppings on my french fries. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that I was a fan of these. In contrast to my experience with the Loaded Crab Fries from Hurricane Hanna’s, I don’t have any complaints about Contempo Café’s Loaded Fries.
Everything stayed hot, which you may recall was one of my biggest complaints about the aforementioned Loaded Crab Fries. The flavor was a delicious mash-up of cheesy fries with jalapeño popper elements. You can grab these fries during both lunch and dinner services. Ultimately, I highly recommend them to other cheese lovers out there!

You may enjoy these Loaded Fries if:
- You’re looking for something smaller than a sandwich or burger
- You want something you can customize a bit (more/less/no spice based on how many of the jalapeños you eat) or skipping the ranch (served in a cup)
- You love creamy, melty cheese (this has cheese sauce, not “regular” melted cheese)
Contempo Café Is A Top Dining Pick
Disney Adults on a budget will appreciate the value, portion sizes, and variety of menu items offered at Contempo Café. Mobile ordering is available at this location, which makes meal time extra convenient. This is also where you’ll come to get refills with your Rapid Fill Refillable Mug. As always, I recommend checking out the dessert case at Contempo for a sweet treat (they often have unique items). Sometimes you just want a cupcake after a late night at the parks, y’know what I mean?
