Sometimes, a pool bar is more than just a pool bar. Many Disney World pool bars go beyond the standard drinks you can find across property or the basic menu items you can find anywhere. Prime examples of leveled-up pool bars worth a visit include Banana Cabana at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Geyser Point Bar & Grill at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts.
Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar & Grill
Hurricane Hanna’s is located just outside the gates of Stormalong Bay, the epic 3-acre waterpark-caliber pool area shared by Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. This pool bar has been a MouseHouseNews.net team favorite for years. Typically, our go-to order is Hanna’s Bacon Angus Cheeseburger and an order of onion rings (rest in peace, onion rings…they’re no longer on the menu). However, on a recent visit, I decided to try something new to go with that Bacon Angus Cheeseburger.
A Coastal Creation: Loaded Crab Fries
The Loaded Crab Fries are a basket of thin cut Disney fries topped with crab meat, cheese curds, bacon pieces, and crab bisque. Compared to other pool bar and quick service options, the Loaded Crab Fries are definitely unique. This menu item is perfect for the coastal theming of Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. But, how do they taste?
To start, there was a generous amount of crab meat in the dish. Given that they are “crab fries”, I was pleased that I could actually see plenty of crab on my order. Additionally, the crab bisque amped up the seafood flavor even more. Although most of the bisque collected at the bottom of the container, I didn’t find the fries to be overly soggy.
One of the things I was most looking forward to were the cheese curds. I grew up in Wisconsin, so I love a good cheese curd! The cheese curds on my fries were missing that fresh “squeak” (if you know, you know). They were fine, but in the end, not super memorable.
The garnish of bacon and green onions honestly didn’t add much flavor. Perhaps this is because there was only a small sprinkle of both elements on top. In the end, the crab/seafood flavor really overpowered everything else. Again, they’re “crab fries”, so I suppose that’s what one should expect.
The main complaint I have about my Loaded Crab Fries is that they were, at best, only lukewarm in temperature. I was expecting something piping hot, and these were not that. This was especially a let-down when it came to all of that crab bisque collected at the bottom of the dish.
Who Would Enjoy Loaded Crab Fries
You may enjoy these Loaded Crab Fries if:
- You want a unique item that feels distinctly on-theme for these resorts
- You really, really enjoy seafood/crab flavor
- You’re tired of burgers, chicken strips, and other standard pool bar fare
Parting Thoughts
Just because these weren’t exactly a hit for me doesn’t mean others out there won’t enjoy them. I think if my order had been served hot, my experience would have vastly improved. In the end, I’ll likely stick with my beloved Bacon Angus Cheeseburger and call it a day. Oh, and maybe someday they’ll bring back those amazing onion rings! One can only dream.
Hurricane Hanna’s is a convenient meal spot whether or not you’re staying at Yacht or Beach Club. If you’re resort hopping with your Rapid Fill Refillable Mug, there’s a beverage refill station right next to the ordering counter. They have a decent number of umbrella tables; however, it can sometimes be tricky to find a seat. You will definitely hear “pool noise” including loud music, splashing around, shouts of excitement, and Cast Member-led poolside activities. If you’re seeking a quiet meal, you’ll likely want to look elsewhere.
