5 Ways to Make Your Magic Kingdom Day Feel EXTRA Magical

There’s nothing like stepping onto Main Street U.S.A. and gazing at Cinderella Castle for the first time. Whether it’s your first visit ever, or you’ve been to Disney World hundreds of times, letting the magic whisk you away to a world of fantasy and imagination will make you feel like dreams really do come true.

I once overheard a child tell his family: “of course there’s magic there… that’s why it’s called ‘Magical’ Kingdom”. That’s not a typo, and the kid definitely had the right idea. Today, I want to encourage you to sneak a few additional things into your Magic Kingdom day. These simple suggestions can dial the magic up even further.

1. Ask For A Celebration Button

MouseHouseNews.net has covered this topic before, but it’s worth repeating. In Disney World, you can celebrate anything! Why not share your special occasion with the world? You can request a celebration button at the front desk of your Disney Resort, Guest Services at any of the theme parks, or most merchandise locations. Cast Members are able to customize it for your occasion. There are currently several designs available including:

You can celebrate literally anything with this button
  • First Visit – As the name implies, it’s for those who are celebrating their first visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth.
  • Happily Ever After – A button perfect for celebrating weddings and anniversaries.
  • Happy Birthday – Are you celebrating a birthday? If so, this is your button!
  • I’m Celebrating – These buttons are for any occasion!

I recommend picking up your celebration button at the beginning of your trip. You can even wear more than one at a time. So, don’t be shy to ask for buttons for multiple occasions. Finally, here’s a bonus tip: if you have your button personalized, you may want to put a piece of tape over the ink. I found out the hard way that permanent marker can smear when exposed to sunscreen…

2. Snap An Iconic Photo

Another way to make your Magic Kingdom day extra magical is by taking a photo in front of Cinderella Castle. Selfies are fun, but that’s not the only option. Enter Disney’s PhotoPass Photography service. The MouseHouseNews.net team loves Disney PhotoPass! Disney offers PhotoPass at Walt Disney World theme parks, select Disney Resorts Collection Hotels, and even Disney Springs. Finding all of the PhotoPass locations is a fun treasure hunt! If you love taking photos, the My Disney Experience app makes it super easy to find the available photo spots.

Don’t forget that Cinderella Castle shot!

One of the best things about PhotoPass is that it allows you to get your whole group in the picture. Here’s a tip: sometimes PhotoPass photographers are able to add a bit of extra Disney magic to your photos. These Magic Shots involve digitally adding special backgrounds or characters into your photo. You’re not always going to know what special character or element is going to join you in the picture. The surprise is half of the fun though!

A photo on Main Street U.S.A. is a must, especially when extra magic is added

PhotoPass photographers can take pictures with their equipment or your own device (upon request). Just be aware that if they use your phone to take the picture, Magic Shots are not an option. Either way, I encourage you to snap some pictures for the memories!

3. Pixie Dust Is Pure Magic

If you want to get a little bit of pixie dust, head over to Sir Mickey’s behind Cinderella Castle. Cast Members make the experience extra special by reciting a short rhyme and prompting you to make a wish. As you make your wish, they sprinkle “pixie dust” on top of your head with a magic wand. Fair warning: you will be covered in this glittery magic. You will find it in your hair and on your clothes for days (even after showering). Ask me how I know!

Getting pixie dusted is a fun diversion for all ages that doesn’t take much time at all. I highly recommend it as part of your magical day!

4. The Sword In The Stone

After you’ve been sufficiently pixie dusted, you don’t have to travel far for the next idea. The sword in the stone is located just behind Prince Charming Regal Carrousel. Try your hand at pulling it to see if you are destined to be the future king (or queen). Spoiler alert: after several attempts, I am still not the chosen one.

You can try your luck back in the Fantasyland section of Magic Kingdom

You can often find a PhotoPass photographer on hand to chronicle your success (or failure) at pulling the sword out of the stone. Therefore, it’s like a two-in-one magical occasion (photo + interactive moment).

5. Meet A Character

My final tip to add extra magic into your Magic Kingdom day is to take time to meet at least one character. Meeting characters isn’t just for kids! Each character has their own personality, and each interaction is unique.

I loved meeting Winnie the Pooh during a recent visit to Magic Kingdom

If you are shy and are anxious about what to say, don’t worry. Disney’s character actors are skilled at leading conversations. Character attendants are often on hand to help guests interact with non-talking characters, too.

There’s nothing more fun than to meet your favorite characters

Interactions don’t have to be long or complicated. If you know something about a character’s story/world, you can certainly have a bit of a discussion about it. However, it’s also okay if all you want to do is say “hi” and ask for a photo together. So, go ahead and meet your favorite princess, adventurer, or Mickey Mouse himself. You won’t be disappointed!
