MouseHouseNews.net has covered the runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend for the past couple of years. It was the 2025 event that really introduced us to the runDisney events, as the MouseHouseNews.net team participated in the Springtime Surprise 5K that year. We were back in 2026 for the 10K race, prompting me to give my thoughts afterwards. Disney Adults love runDisney events, and I can certainly understand why. Well, now we have more details about the final race weekend of the 2026 – 2027 runDisney season!
Fans have plenty to be excited about as new details continue to emerge for the 2027 runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend. Not only has Disney released the race themes for the popular spring race weekend, but runners also learned that the event’s dates have shifted from the timeframe that was originally announced earlier this year.
For many runDisney participants, Springtime Surprise has become one of the most anticipated race weekends of the year thanks to its rotating themes, unique character-inspired medals, and the opportunity to complete a 5K, 10K, 10-Miler, or the 19.3-mile Challenge.

2027 Springtime Surprise Themes Are Here
Disney has now revealed the themes for each race during the 2027 runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend, giving runners their first glimpse at the characters and stories that will inspire the event. The umbrella theme of the weekend is “Running Through The Years”, and you will see a variety of themes that span the decades of Disney intellectual property. Depending on the race you run, you may feel a bit of nostalgia or get those modern vibes.

The race weekend will feature:
- Springtime Surprise 5K: Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck-It Ralph ($125/person)
- Springtime Surprise 10K: Robin Hood, Prince John and Sir Hiss from Robin Hood ($175/person)
- Springtime Surprise 10-Miler: Alice & The Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland ($239/person)
- Springtime Surprise Challenge: Classic Mickey & Minnie from Steamboat Willie ($555/person)

As is tradition with Springtime Surprise, each race receives its own unique theme rather than following a single overarching franchise or story. The rotating format has helped make the event a favorite among repeat participants who enjoy seeing something completely different each year.
Many runners use the theme announcement as the deciding factor when planning costumes, race outfits, and even whether they will register for individual races or tackle the Challenge.

The 2027 Dates Have Changed
Perhaps the biggest surprise was the adjustment to the event dates.
When Disney initially released the 2026-2027 runDisney race calendar, the 2027 Springtime Surprise Weekend was listed for April 15 – April 18, 2027. However, runDisney has since updated its event pages to reflect new dates. The 2027 runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend will now take place from April 8 – April 11, 2027, moving the event one week earlier than originally announced.
- The 5K race will take place on Friday, April 9, 2027
- The 10K race will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2027
- The 10-Miler race will take place on Sunday, April 11, 2027
Disney has not publicly provided a reason for the schedule adjustment, but runners planning travel packages, resort stays, and vacation requests will want to update their calendars accordingly.

Also new this year, the runDisney Springtime Surprise 5K will kick off at 4:30 AM. This is half-hour earlier than in past years. This time change has been implemented across all of the runDisney 5K races for the 2026 – 2027 season. runDisney promised an expansion of registration slots for their 5K races this year, and I’m guessing this is how they are able to accommodate this change. The start groups will take off between 4:30 – 7:30 AM, and arrival times for participants will now vary based on the assigned start group. This arrival time change is only for the 5K race.
Registration Information
General registration for the 2027 runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend is scheduled to open on July 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Club runDisney Gold and Platinum members will receive access to an earlier registration window starting June 30, 2026.

Historically, runDisney events can sell out quickly, particularly Challenge registrations and 10K races. Runners interested in participating should be prepared to join the virtual queue as soon as registration opens.
A Weekend Disney Adults Won’t Want To Miss
The Springtime Surprise Weekend continues to offer something a little different from the other runDisney events. While Marathon Weekend celebrates endurance and Princess Weekend focuses on Disney royalty, Springtime Surprise embraces creativity with ever-changing themes and race experiences.

With race themes now revealed and updated dates officially confirmed, Disney Adults who are considering their 2027 race calendar may want to start making plans sooner rather than later. Between the themed medals, unique entertainment, and the chance to run through Walt Disney World Resort, this race weekend is shaping up to be another memorable finish to the runDisney season.
