If visiting EPCOT is part of your Walt Disney World plans toward the end of October, there are a couple of dates you will want to circle on your calendar.
The 2026 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend takes place October 22nd through October 25th, bringing thousands of runners and spectators to Walt Disney World. While runDisney fans have plenty of fun to look forward to, regular theme park Guests could notice the impact, particularly at EPCOT.

Two race mornings will result in EPCOT opening later than usual, while race-related transportation and road closures could also make getting around Walt Disney World a little more complicated.
EPCOT Will Open Later On Two October Mornings
The two dates EPCOT Guests need to watch are Friday, October 23rd and Sunday, October 25th.
EPCOT will open at 10:00 AM on both dates, one hour later than its typical 9:00 AM opening. For Disney Resorts Collection Hotel guests hoping to get an extra early start in EPCOT, Early Theme Park Entry is pushed back to 9:30 AM on those mornings.

The reason becomes pretty clear when you look at the runDisney schedule.
The Disney Wine & Dine 5K takes place Friday, October 23rd, with runners starting and finishing at EPCOT. runDisney 5K events have additional capacity for the 2026 – 2027 season, meaning more runners (and longer events). The first start group will start running at 4:30 AM, while the final start group has a projected start time between 7:51 and 8:08 AM. The 5K finish area in the EPCOT parking lot will remain active until around 9:30 AM.

That makes this year’s 5K particularly important for anyone planning an early EPCOT morning. The race activity stretches well into the hours when Disney would normally begin preparing to welcome Early Entry Guests.
The Half Marathon Creates Another Late EPCOT Opening
EPCOT will once again open at 10:00 AM on Sunday, October 25th, when the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon takes place.

The Half Marathon begins at 5:00 AM, with projected starts continuing until shortly after 6:00 AM. The finish area at EPCOT will operate until 9:45 AM, while runDisney transportation from EPCOT back to participating resorts continues until around 10:30 AM
The Half Marathon also creates transportation considerations beyond EPCOT itself. If you are driving, expect several road closures around Walt Disney World on October 25th due to the Half Marathon route. Some closures or modifications may continue until 9:30 or 10:30 AM.

That means guests heading to EPCOT, another theme park, a Disney Resort hotel, or a breakfast reservation should leave some additional time in their morning schedule. I would definitely recommend using Disney Transportation that morning.
What About Saturday’s Wine & Dine 10K?
There is also a race on Saturday, October 24th, when the Disney Wine & Dine 10K begins at 5:00 AM.

The 10K starts and finishes in the EPCOT parking area, and several nearby roads will experience early-morning closures. However, EPCOT will maintain its regular 9:00 AM opening that day.
The biggest park-hours changes are limited to the Friday and Sunday.
October 23rd And October 25th Require A Different EPCOT Strategy
If you normally like to arrive at EPCOT first thing in the morning, the later opening changes your strategy.
Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel will not have their normal 8:30 AM Early Theme Park Entry opportunity on October 23rd or October 25th. Instead, Early Entry starts at 9:30 AM, followed by the regular park opening at 10:00 AM.

That lost hour could matter if your plan depends on knocking out attractions early before spending the afternoon exploring World Showcase and the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival.
You may want to consider visiting another park on those mornings (and possibly park hopping to EPCOT later), sleeping in and arriving closer to opening, or simply adjusting your expectations for how much you can accomplish before lunch.
A Little Planning Can Keep Race Weekend From Slowing You Down
Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend is one of the biggest runDisney events of the year, and the races bring a completely different energy to Walt Disney World. You do not need to avoid Walt Disney World during race weekend, but you should know what is happening before building your itinerary.
For Disney Adults who love EPCOT, October 23rd and October 25th are the two dates that deserve the most attention.

With EPCOT opening at 10:00 AM instead of 9:00 AM on both days, Early Theme Park Entry moving to 9:30 AM, and race-related transportation operating around the park, your normal EPCOT morning strategy may need an adjustment.
If your Disney vacation falls during the October 22-25 race weekend, give yourself some extra travel time, double-check park hours in the My Disney Experience app, and remember that a little flexibility could save you from an unexpected delay.
