Technology Issues PLAGUE runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend Registration

Technology: Sometimes we can’t live with it, but we certainly can’t live without it. When tech works well, our lives can be majorly enhanced. However, when it fails, major disruptions can occur. Yesterday morning, Disney Adults wanting to experience a runDisney race weekend were waiting for their chance to register for the 2027 runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend. Unfortunately, problems plagued the registration process.

runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

One of the most popular runDisney events held annually is the Princess Half Marathon Weekend. The 2027 race weekend is scheduled for February 25 – March 1, 2027. It consists of the Princess 5K, Princess 10K, Princess Half Marathon, and the Princess Fairy Tale Challenge (all three races).

It is the third in-person runDisney race of the 2026 – 2027 race season.

What Happened?

I was one of the people monitoring the situation first-hand while waiting to enter the virtual waiting room, which was supposed to open at 10:00 AM Eastern Time. The virtual waiting room never opened and, after a couple of updates to the page which was designed to auto-refresh when it’s your time to enter the waiting room, the registration was called off entirely. That occurred shortly after 12:00 noon Eastern.

runDisney has blamed the problem on technology issues. They issued an apology and promised an update by 8:00 PM last night.

Backlash Online

Online, frustrated potential participants voiced their opinions about everything from the fact that there were technology issues to the decision to issue updates through social media avenues as opposed to the registration website. Some fans acknowledged that they used Paid Time Off in order to get the opportunity to register. Given the fact that runDisney races sell out within minutes, I can understand why Disney Adults who have jobs without access to a computer would need to do this in order to have any opportunity to register. Clearly, the inconvenience of this issue is hitting differently depending on who you ask.

Stay Tuned

At this time, runDisney has promised to provide at least a 24-hour notice to fans regarding the new registration date and time. They have also promised another update by 8:00 PM Eastern tonight (again, on their social media accounts). We’ll be keeping an eye on this situation as well.

Update

runDisney has announced that registration will now take place on Monday, June 8th at 10:00 AM Eastern time. Hopefully everything will go off perfectly this time around!
