REVIEW: Blaze A Trail To Westward Ho For A Mickey-shaped BREAKFAST Treat

REVIEW: Blaze A Trail To Westward Ho For A Mickey-shaped BREAKFAST Treat

A magical morning at Magic Kingdom can definitely work up an appetite for any Disney Adult. When it’s time to lasso up something to eat in between riding rides, meeting characters, and taking photos, you may want to mosey over to Frontierland for a unique breakfast item to satisfy your hunger.

Westward Ho is a small snack stand in Frontierland across from Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. The location serves refreshments including fountain drinks, Joffrey’s Cold Brew, and slushies. They also have snacks ranging from a candied bacon skewer to mini corn dogs and more. Today, we want to give you our thoughts about one of the breakfast menu options: the Mickey-shaped Bacon-Pecan-Caramel Cinnamon Roll.

This breakfast item is quite self-explanatory based on the name. It’s a cinnamon roll shaped like Mickey, covered in caramel sauce, bacon crumbles, and candied pecans. Sounds glorious, right? It definitely looked amazing. However, let’s talk about whether it lived up to expectations.

It certainly looks delicious!

The Good

I want to start out with the positives:

  • The size is massive. This makes it a very shareable breakfast item, especially for the price (currently $8.49).
  • Everything is better with bacon, and we felt our cinnamon roll had a generous amount of bacon crumbles on top.
  • The caramel sauce on top was tasty.

The Not-So-Good

Unfortunately, there were some not-so-positive things about this breakfast pastry:

  • The biggest problem was that we felt our pastry was quite dry. While the caramel sauce helped, there simply wasn’t enough of it to counteract the dry texture of the cinnamon roll itself.
  • Another huge con is that some of the candied pecan pieces were rock hard. Marcus actually thought he might crack a tooth filling on one, so he started avoiding them after the first couple of bites.

The Verdict

Overall, this was a unique option to try. I won’t go as far as to say “don’t get this”, because our experience could have been a one-off. It’s always worth trying something for yourself at least once. However, there are other Magic Kingdom options I would recommend getting instead of this one. My personal favorite treat is the Cheshire Cat Tail from Cheshire Cafe. For something more substantial, you may want to consider Marcus’s favorite. He prefers the Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread, Bananas, Berries, and Whipped Cream you can get from Sleepy Hollow.

While the cinnamon roll is sharable, we agree the Frozen Coke is a better option

Westward Ho has somewhat limited operating hours each day, so you will want to double check the Westward Ho page for current hours on the day of your visit. Also, Cast Members have confirmed that this location’s days are numbered and it will be closing soon as part of the Frontierland reimagining. After the closure, this Mickey-shaped pastry is likely to end up on a menu elsewhere, so keep your eyes peeled!
