It’s 10/6 And You Know What That Means: MAD HATTER Day Is Here!

October 6th marks one of MouseHouseNews.net’s favorite unofficial holidays! It’s an annual tradition for us to celebrate Mad Hatter Day. The significance of the date comes from The Mad Hatter’s Hat, which features a “10/6” price tag on it. This is a reference to the price of the hat around the time Lewis Carroll authored Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (in pre-decimal British currency: ten shillings and sixpence). Want some ideas of ways in which you can celebrate today?

The Most Whimsical Way To Celebrate 10/6

Of course, the absolute best way to celebrate is to have a chat with Hatter himself. He and Alice meet with Disney World guests near the Mad Tea Party attraction. Whether you want to spill the tea or try a new kind of tea, Hatter will enthusiastically discuss everything tea.

He can also give advice on choosing the right hat. In fact, the number one piece of advice I was given recently is to make sure the hat I choose has enough room underneath to store everything I might need!

Take a Spin on Mad Tea Party

As someone whose favorite ride is Mad Tea Party, I highly encourage you to take a spin on the teacups today (and every day). In fact, spin as fast as you can! After all, is there any other way to enjoy this classic Magic Kingdom attraction?

I love my teacups ears!

Grab a Treat or Two from Cheshire Café

You can follow up your ride with one of my favorite Magic Kingdom snacks, a Cheshire Cat Tail from nearby Cheshire Café. A Cheshire Cat Tail is a flaky pastry with chocolate chips and a sweet filling topped with zigzags of pink and purple icing. Pure perfection, if you ask me!

You can’t lose with a Cheshire Cat Tail

In 2026, I also recommend grabbing a Queen of Hearts Tart. This Halloween-exclusive treat is a pastry filled with sour cherry pie filling. Personally, I enjoyed this one so much that I hope Disney will keep it around beyond Spooky Season!

Finally, Cold brew lovers won’t want to miss The White Rabbit, made with Joffrey’s™ Cold Brew Coffee, white chocolate sauce, raspberry cold foam, raspberry powder, and a white rabbit chocolate piece. This has definitely been one of my favorite beverages in Magic Kingdom since it was introduced. Just be sure to stir it with your straw a bit to mix it as you go. Otherwise, the syrup tends to settle at the bottom of the cup.

Celebrate in the U.K.

If you’re in EPCOT today, definitely visit the U.K. pavilion. Our most curious friend, Alice, is always delighted to discuss her adventures in Wonderland.

Stop by the UK pavilion in EPCOT today!

Complete your visit with a stop by The Tea Caddy Featuring Twinings Tea. The shop has a selection of Twinings tea, tea accessories, British sweets, cookies, and royal memorabilia. It has everything you need for whimsical unbirthday party!

10/6 at Home Ideas

Unfortunately, not all of us are able to be in Walt Disney World today. If this is you, no worries! I have it all sorted out for you with some simple at home ideas:

You can celebrate at home, too!
  • dress the part by wearing your most eccentric hat
  • host a tea party
  • read Lewis Carroll’s book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (also known as Alice in Wonderland)
  • have an Alice in Wonderland movie marathon
  • solve riddles or puzzles (the more ridiculous, the better!)

Today is a day to embrace your silly side, be as ridiculous as possible, and of course, enjoy some tea.
