Runners Take The SPOTLIGHT As runDisney Returns To Walt Disney World This Week

Even though Spring Break is behind us, the elevated crowd sizes continue in Disney World. Thousands of runners and spectators will be in Orlando later this week for runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend. If you’ll be joining them in the magic, you will definitely notice extra crowds at Disney Resorts Collection Hotels, in the theme parks, and on Disney transportation.

runDisney Health & Fitness Expo

Although the races themselves won’t begin until Friday morning, participants and spectators will likely begin arriving mid-week. As a reminder, all runners must visit the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at least one day prior to their races in order to pick up bibs, participant shirts, and any pre-purchased merchandise. MouseHouseNews.net previously brought you details for the Expo, but in case you need a refresher, here’s what you need to know:

The runDisney Health & Fitness Expo features plenty of merchandise and vendor Q & A

The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will once again be hosting the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo. It’s open to everyone, although some facets are specifically geared toward event participants. Visitors to the Expo can expect vendors, exhibits, shopping (including Brooks running shoes and official runDisney merchandise), photo ops, and even character meet and greets.

You can visit the Expo during the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, April 16th from 10:00am to 7:00pm
  • Friday, April 17th from 12:00pm to 7:00pm
  • Saturday, April 18th from 11:00am to 3:00pm

Springtime Surprise Events

Participants in this weekend’s races will be running in one or more of the following events:

  • Friday, April 17th – Springtime Surprise 5K
  • Saturday, April 18th – Springtime Surprise 10K
  • Sunday, April 19th – Springtime Surprise 10-Miler
I ran the 5K last year… that’s 3.1 miles!

Impacts Beyond Crowds Levels

In addition to increased crowds, your vacation may be impacted in a couple of other ways this week. First, be aware of temporary road closures and detours around Disney property. Some race routes take runners on area roadways, so these sections may be closed to traffic for runner safety. If you’re driving in the area, use extra caution. There may also be delays for Disney transportation. As always, pack your patience!

Be prepared for traffic impacts early in the morning this weekend

Another temporary change may impact you if you plan to visit EPCOT this weekend. EPCOT will have adjusted operating hours on Sunday, April 19th due to the 10-Miler race. The theme park will open at 10:00am that day instead of the usual 9:00am. Disney Resorts guests will still have access to Early Theme Park Entry at EPCOT beginning at 9:30am that day. Flower & Garden Festival is in full swing. So, keep this change in mind if your plans include viewing the topiaries, shopping for festival merchandise, or Garden Graze-ing your way around the park on Sunday.

If you’re in Disney World this weekend and see runners proudly sporting their brand new medals, be sure to congratulate them! Keep an eye on the MouseHouseNewsNet YouTube channel later this week for a look at the Expo and other Springtime Surprise Weekend festivities. MouseHouseNews.net will continue to bring you updated information that may impact your Disney World vacation. We’ll see you real soon!
