Late last year, MouseHouseNews.net reported on how a Disney deluxe resort was temporarily reduced to one transportation option. This was due to the suspension of boat service at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge while there was maintenance done to the boat dock. Well, it appears that another round of boat suspensions is upon us.
Guests staying at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge should be aware of a temporary transportation change starting next week. Boat service from the popular waterfront resort will be suspended for a short period while routine maintenance continues at the resort’s dock.
According to Disney, watercraft transportation at the lodge will pause from April 13th through May 1st as refurbishment work takes place on the dock along Bay Lake. The initial phase of boat dock maintenance started in January. April 13th kicks off a new phase of the maintenance which is expected to last until late July.

The Scenic Boat Ride Takes a Short Break
One of the highlights of staying at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is the peaceful boat ride across Bay Lake. There are two routes that operate from this dock: the red flag and the blue flag. Between the two routes, the resort is connected with several nearby destinations including:
- Magic Kingdom Park (Red Flag)
- Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground (Blue Flag)
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort (Blue Flag)
These routes are fan favorites because they offer a scenic and relaxing alternative to buses in the Magic Kingdom area. At the beginning of this maintenance period, however, boats will not operate from the Wilderness Lodge dock.

Disney Buses Will Fill the Gap
The good news is that free transportation options will still be available. Disney will provide buses to replace the suspended boat routes, allowing guests to continue reaching nearby destinations during the closure. Travelers heading to the Magic Kingdom will simply use the Disney resort bus service. Guests planning to visit the Contemporary Resort will need to make a transfer. You would take a bus to the Magic Kingdom, then walk or use the Resort Monorail to reach the hotel.

Boats Expected to Return in Early May
While dock refurbishment is expected to continue into the summer, Disney currently plans for boat transportation to resume on May 2, 2026 once this phase of the project is complete. Guests visiting during the closure window should simply plan for a few extra minutes of travel time and rely on the bus system instead of the waterfront route. As a reminder, you can conveniently track the next Disney buses arriving to your resort from the My Disney Experience app.
Even with the temporary transportation change, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge remains one of the most unique and immersive resorts at Walt Disney World Resort. It is known for its national-park-inspired architecture, towering lobby, and relaxing lakeside atmosphere.
