Calling all Space Rangers!
Guests visiting Magic Kingdom today might notice something exciting happening in Tomorrowland. After months of refurbishment, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has quietly begun a soft opening, allowing guests to preview the updated attraction. As MouseHouseNews.net reported earlier this month, the re-opening of the Buzz Lightyear ride is officially April 8, 2026. While the attraction is still technically listed as closed in the My Disney Experience app, we can confirm that the ride is now accepting riders during this preview to the general public.

A Surprise Return to Tomorrowland
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been closed since August 2025 as part of a major refurbishment designed to modernize the interactive shooter attraction. The refreshed version promises several upgrades designed to make the battle against Emperor Zurg more immersive and easier to play. Guests stepping aboard the attraction will notice new technology and enhancements throughout the ride experience.
Among the biggest updates are:
- Handheld blasters that guests can pick up and aim freely
- Always-on laser targeting beams to help players see exactly where they’re aiming
- Improved interactive targets that respond more clearly when hit
- New ride vehicles with onboard scoring displays
- A brand-new support robot character named Buddy, who prepares recruits for their mission before launch
These changes aim to improve gameplay and bring the attraction closer to the interactive shooter experiences seen in other Disney parks around the world.

What a “Soft Opening” Means
Soft openings are common at Walt Disney World when an attraction is nearing completion. During this testing phase, the ride may operate sporadically throughout the day as Cast Members continue fine-tuning systems and guest flow.
That means:
- The ride may open and close without notice
- It might not appear in the official wait time listings
- Some effects or features could still be adjusted before the official launch
However, guests who happen to be in Tomorrowland at the right time might get the chance to experience the updated attraction before opening day.
Official Reopening Still Set for April
Even with today’s soft opening, the official reopening date for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin remains April 8, 2026. Once the attraction officially relaunches, it will mark the return of one of Magic Kingdom’s most popular interactive rides and a staple of Tomorrowland for decades.

For Disney Adults visiting Walt Disney World this spring, this early preview could be a great opportunity to test their aim and rack up a high score before the crowds arrive for the grand reopening. If you’re heading through Tomorrowland today, keep an eye on the entrance near Star Command. You might just get recruited early for your next mission.
