Two Magic Kingdom Favorites Finally Have Reopening Dates

Two Magic Kingdom Favorites Finally Have Reopening Dates

Magic Kingdom fans finally have something to celebrate. After months of closures and refurbishment work, Disney has confirmed reopening timelines for two popular attractions. Both Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin now have reopening windows, giving Disney Adults another reason to start planning their next park day. If these rides have been missing from your Magic Kingdom routine, the wait is almost over.

Tomorrowland Scores a Comeback This Spring

First up is Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. As MouseHouseNews.net reported, the Buzz Lightyear operations were suspended back in August for a major overhaul and we expected the ride to reopen this Spring. Now we know that the interactive shooter attraction will officially reopen on April 8, 2026 in Tomorrowland. When it returns, guests can expect several upgrades designed to make the game experience more interactive and competitive.

Some of the new features reportedly include:

  • Handheld blasters instead of the old mounted ones
  • New ride vehicles and updated targets that light up when hit
  • Enhanced lighting, sound, and vibration effects
  • A new training robot named “Buddy” to help guests practice their aim
  • Updated PhotoPass moments that show your score and ranking

These updates should make chasing that elusive Galactic Hero score even more competitive for returning riders. For Disney Adults who love racking up high scores, Tomorrowland is about to feel fresh again.

Frontierland’s Wildest Ride In The Wilderness Is Almost Back

Over in Frontierland, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is nearing the end of a much longer refurbishment. Disney has confirmed the coaster will reopen in early May 2026. It seems like eons ago when we reported the closure of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This closure lasted for nearly 1.5 years starting in January 2025. However, the time has come where you can once again ride this Frontierland favorite.

The refurbishment reportedly includes:

  • A completely replaced track
  • Refreshed show scenes and props
  • Updated Audio-Animatronics
  • A reimagined Rainbow Caverns sequence featuring glowing pools and enhanced lighting effects

The goal is to keep the ride feeling classic while quietly upgrading the technology and storytelling elements that longtime fans love.

Two Reopenings That Change the Magic Kingdom Game

For Disney Adults planning trips this spring and early summer, these reopenings could shift how a Magic Kingdom day looks.

  • April 8, 2026: Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin returns to Tomorrowland
  • Early May 2026: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens in Frontierland

Having both attractions back online restores two major capacity draws on opposite sides of the park. That could help redistribute crowds and give guests more ride options during peak travel periods.

More importantly, it means two nostalgic favorites are about to feel brand new again.

The Countdown Is On

Refurbishments are a normal part of keeping the parks running smoothly, but they always leave noticeable holes in the ride lineup. With reopening dates now announced, Magic Kingdom is about to regain two classic experiences.

If you’ve been missing the thrill of the runaway mine train or the competition of blasting Emperor Zurg, the countdown has officially begun. Frontierland’s wildest ride and Tomorrowland’s ultimate target practice are almost ready for guests again.
