Cinderella Castle Is Rocking a RARE Look Right Now

Guests visiting Magic Kingdom lately may notice something a little unusual about the park’s most famous landmark. Right now, Cinderella Castle is two-toned! Some sections of the structure appears gray-and-blue while other areas are still pink-and-gold; colors fans have known most recently.

It’s not a design experiment or a lighting trick; it’s simply the castle mid-makeover. And for Disney Adults strolling down Main Street, the transformation is giving a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of a Disney icon evolving in real time.

At the moment, the castle looks like it’s split between two eras. Some walls and towers have already been repainted in cool gray-and-blue tones, while other sections still carry the pink-and-gold palette introduced during Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration.

That contrast is what creates the current two-toned appearance guests are seeing in photos from the park. In some areas, you’re essentially seeing the castle’s next chapter. In others, you’re looking at the last traces of its anniversary makeover. For frequent visitors and park regulars, it’s a rare visual moment where two versions of the castle exist at the same time.

Why The Castle Is Being Repainted

The repainting project began in early 2026 as Disney works to restore the castle to a more classic color scheme inspired by its traditional look. The pink tones were added during the 2020 COVID pandemic closure ahead of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration, giving the castle a brighter, more iridescent appearance. Now that the celebration era is firmly in the rearview mirror, Disney is shifting the park’s icon back toward a timeless blue-and-gray palette that defined the castle for decades.

In other words, the makeover is less about something new and more about bringing back a classic.

Why You’re Seeing The Two-Toned Effect

Repainting a structure as massive and detailed as Cinderella Castle can’t happen overnight. Crews are working section by section, often using boom lifts positioned around the castle. The castle moat has been drained, and some of the equipment to reach the tallest towers is staged in the drained moat.

Because the repainting happens gradually, guests currently see a mix of:

  • Fresh gray stone sections
  • Newly restored blue roofs
  • Remaining pink walls and gold trim

Until every section is finished, the castle naturally looks split between old and new color palettes.

The Park’s Impact During The Makeover

The good news for visitors is that the repainting has had minimal impact on the park experience.

Disney has scheduled most painting work during very early morning hours, and equipment like cranes or lifts is typically lowered or removed by midday so guests can still capture their classic castle photos. In fact, I have yet to see this equipment prominently up around the castle to this day. Nighttime entertainment, including projections during Happily Ever After, has continued with only minor adjustments while the work progresses.

For Disney Adults who love watching the parks evolve, it’s actually a pretty fascinating moment. You’re essentially seeing history being made tower by tower.
