Every Christmas morning, ABC airs a Christmas Day special from Disney Parks. The highlight of their holiday special is the Christmas Day Parades from Disney World and Disneyland. These parades are taped ahead of time, edited, and ready to air on Christmas morning for your convenience. If you intend to visit Magic Kingdom this weekend, your visit will be impacted.
The ABC crew is on location inside Magic Kingdom today and tomorrow, so you will see a number of changes. First, some areas will be restricted. There will be areas where scaffolding and camera equipment are set up, so mobility around certain areas of the park (mainly Cinderella Castle and Main Street U.S.A.) will be limited. A lot of entertainment will also be canceled. This includes the Adventure Friends Cavalcade and Festival of Fantasy parade. The latter is being replaced by a slightly-modified showing of Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade, which is currently only seen at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. The Christmas parade will roll through the park for day guests starting a few days before Christmas.
It is Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade that is the focus of the ABC filming today. The filming will occur down Main Street U.S.A., but be aware that some sections of Main Street U.S.A. will be off limits to the general public. In these areas, Disney Cast Members will fill the sidewalks for filming purposes. Today, this parade will kick off at 2:00 PM.
There will also be random filming taking place other places throughout Magic Kingdom. The train station was blocked off this morning so Alfonso Ribeiro and Ginnifer Goodwin could record multiple takes of the introduction to the televised parade.
