There is no surprise that if you visit Walt Disney World at certain times of the year, you will be far from alone. Certain times of the year, including March into April, holiday weekends, the heart of the summer, Thanksgiving week, and the week between Christmas and New Years Day are sure to draw big crowds to the resort. We were in the Disney World parks this weekend, and to say it was packed is an understatement. While many school districts around the country are no longer on their Spring Breaks, certain events are still drawing many from all over.
This weekend, the Disney Dreamers Academy held its annual four-day conference at Walt Disney World. For those not in the know, Disney Dreamers Academy is an organization geared towards high school students age 13 – 19 who show ambition and excitement for their futures. They have to apply and be one of only 100 accepted into the program. Once accepted, the students and their families are invited to spend four days at Walt Disney World where they can hear from mentors who started out life just like the students and became successful, attend career workshops, and develop career skills (things like networking skills and dressing for success). In addition to the students and their families, many celebrities are in attendance who serve as mentors… people such as Steve Harvey and Rickey Smiley. While walking around Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the MouseHouseNews.net team actually met Gary Hayes (aka Gary With Da Tea) of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show and Dish Nation fame.

Be prepared for continued crowd sizes if you are visiting Walt Disney World this weekend, however. Starting Thursday, crowds will be pouring into the resort for the annual runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend. There will be a 5K run on Friday morning, a 10K race on Saturday morning, and a 10-miler on Sunday morning. After the races, runners typically pour into the theme parks, so prepare for long lines this weekend. This will also apply to Disney Springs and Blizzard Beach water park, as one of the newer perks of staying at a Disney Resorts Collection Hotel is that guests get free admission to the water park on the day of their hotel arrival. Just be sure to pack your patience… you’ve been warned!
